Stromness offers one car and passenger ferry route which is operated by NorthLink Ferries. This route runs from Stromness to Scrabster on the Scottish mainland. Another route, but only for foot passengers, runs to the island of Hoy and is operated by Orkney Ferries.

Stromness to Scrabster


Ferries bound for Scrabster, Scotland depart from Stromness three times a day.


The journey takes 1 hour, 30 minutes. A ferry service has been running this route for over 150 years, making it an incredibly historical route. Scrabster sees an annual throughput of 100,000 people and facilities at the port include public telephones, a snack bar, and access for disabled passengers.

Stromness to Graemsay


The route to Graemsay is open to foot passengers only. Vessels depart several times a day and the journey takes approximately 25 minutes. Graemsay is located on the northern shore of the island of Hoy.
