Port of Stromness
Port Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Stromness, Orkney Islands, Scotland, UK)
Stromness is a beautiful port town with an ever-increasing throughput of ferry traffic. The harbour and quays sit on the north side of the city and are serviced by a new coastal access road which keeps traffic to a minimum in the northern sectors of town. This area offers an interesting perspective on the city, with fine views of Stromness.
Port facilities include a Tourist Information Centre where enquiries may be directed as well as a luggage area with lockers where belongings can be kept.
A vending machine dispenses hot and cold beverages; but there's little else in the way of snacks, let alone dining.
The port does accommodate disabled passengers, with wheelchair access, a lift, and adapted toilets.
Stromness is a busy port which functions as the gateway to the Orkney Islands as well as the Shetlands. The harbour has a good reputation on which the city was first founded in the 17th century.
